Perrotti Performance Design, LLC remains committed to offering
cutting-edge analysis and advanced design technology to a strong
and successful 2007 America's Cup campaign.
With team Alinghi, the
Swiss have proven their America's Cup dominance in a convincing
5-0 win over Team New Zealand in March 2003. Now, the battle for
the prestigious "Auld Mug" trophy moves to Europe, where
Alinghi will defend the Cup in Valencia, Spain in 2007.
Alinghi's host club,
Société Nautique de Genève, and Oracle BMW
Racing's Golden Gate Yacht Club (as Challenger of Record) have together
put forth a new Protocol
Governing America's Cup XXXII.
A most significant change
is the elimination of nationality and residency requirements for
both sailors and designers. "This throws the doors to the playing
field wide open," says Perrotti. "Our company can now
offer services to teams both domestic and foreign while still maintaining
our Newport main office."
The new racing format
will include a series of annual America's Cup Class regattas leading
up to the final Cup event. The first such races will be hosted in
Marseille in September, 2004. Match and fleet race results will
determine seedings for a Challenger Round Robin elimination series
encompassing at least eight top teams. The America's Cup Match will
continue with a best-of-nine series.
